Carpentry

CARPENTRY

INSTRUCTOR: Philip Crisman

The Carpentry course is the building block for achieving high-level construction industry skills that can result in an exciting construction career.  Students start with an understanding of the safe and proper use of hand and power tools. Students learn how to apply construction mathematics and interpret blueprints.  Students will become proficient in identifying types of residential construction components to include form foundations and frame walls, floors, ceilings, roofs, doors, and windows.  Students may be involved in the construction of a storage building, a multitude of other class building projects, and in the construction of a modular house built on-site at Triplett Tech.

Recommended Coursework and Experience with: 

  • Basic math operations
  • Fractions
  • Decimals
  • Measurement to include reading a ruler to the 1/16"
  • Geometry

Supplies Needed for Course:

  • Measuring Tape (25' minimum)
  • Hammer (16 oz. minimum)
  • Two nail sets (1/32, 2/32, and/or 3/32)
  • Square (speed square and/or combination square)
  • Utility knife (retractable blade)
  • Toolbelt/nail apron
  • Hard sole work boots
  • Long pants
