The Nurse Aide provides direct patient care and performs various caregiving tasks always under the direct supervision of a nurse. This is a school-year length course with hours spent in classroom lecture, skills performance lab, and clinicals at a long-term care facility. Grades and attendance are an important part of this program and there are requirements for entering this very rewarding career path.

Recommended Skills to Possess: 

  • Will be in direct contact with acutely and chronically ill residents thus student must be respectful and courteous at all times.

  • MUST be able to maintain confidentiality and honesty. 

  • Substantial verbal and written communication skills.

  • Basic Medical Math: to include addition, multiplication, ratios, fractions, height/ weight, temperature measurements, food intake/ beverage intake percentages/ ratios.

  • Be able to work under pressure and under stressful situations in a medical emergency environment. 

  • Physically able to stand/ walk for long periods of time, lift up to 100 pounds and have good dexterity.
